All the gin ...
I posted a blog on how to make sloe gin a few months ago and today was D-Day as far as finding out if all that effort was worth it and if my first attempt was a success ... Gladly, a resounding yes!!
After nearly 3 months of regularly 'swirling', my two demijohn's full of deep, pink, potent, syrupy gin were ready for the taste test ... and it's dlish - very strong! But very tasty indeed. Which is a bonus for my friends and family who will be receiving it - lucky for them it's not just the thought that counts in this case.
I strained the mixture through a piece of muslin cloth - available in Robert Dyas - to remove any unwanted pulp, we then poured into various size Kilner bottles and labelled each bottle.
I had added a few drops of vanilla essence to one demijohn full of the gin & sloe mixture and almond essence to the other mixture about 4 weeks ago after reading that this enhances the sweetness and flavour. So glad they taste good!
So now the gin is all bottled up and labelled, looks like a boozy Christmas for the Pinder family!!
And although it tastes great now, it only gets better with age so have bottled a bit up for ourselves to enjoy next year.
