Body Shop must-haves ...

Body Shop must-haves ...

The Body Shop was probably my first venture into buying make up and skincare when I was a young teenager.

I can remember going into town and spending my pocket money on various lotions, potions, soaps, lipsticks and perfumes (vanilla musk anyone??)

As I got older it kind of fell off my radar - my skincare obsession took over and I tended to buy products sold on being 'high tech' from shops like Space NK.

But my love for Body Shop has had a recent resurgence. As I've gotten older I find myself coming back to natural and organic products to use on my skin and in the home.

And the Body Shops ethos has always promoted quality, natural and ethical ingredients and products.

I popped into my local Body Shop recently, having specifically gone in for one serum, I soon got totally side tracked trying out their most recent offerings, I was like a kid in a candy store!

I've read so many great reviews about various Body Shop products and they seem to be doing especially well at creating great skincare serums and beauty oils recently that provide the same, or even better, results than many of their more expensive counterparts.

I've used a range of different brands Vitamin C topical treatments in the past and had recently read the Body Shop's range came out on top in reviews so decided to give the Vitamin C skin reviver a go.

Vitamin C is great for the skin, as well as being a powerful antioxidant it also helps improve elasticity through collagen production, helps to diminish sun damage and dark spots and helps with anti aging and skin radiance. (Top tip - Vitamin C is an essential ingredient if you're a smoker as smoking depletes the body's collagen production.)

I was after a Vitamin C serum to use as a make up base for when I wear a full face off make up on special occasions. Having quite oily skin I find my make up doesn't always stay put, I've tried primers but find they tend to clog my pores so instead prefer using a serum with a satin / velvety finish, with specific skincare benefits.

Once inside the Body Shop, I found the serum and saw that there was a deal on buying the Vitamin C spf and Microdermabrasion facial scrub - so I couldn't resist.

I really like this serum as a make up base, it leaves a really velvety feel, absorbs well and creates a great even base for foundation.

I generally find all spf's a tad oily feeling for me but I took this one on holiday and it felt really fresh. And it was reassuring to know that as well as protecting my face from those pesky sun rays I was also getting a good dose of vitamin c.

The Vitamin C Microdermabrasion is a revelation. I LOVE this product!! Whenever I have facials I'm told that exfoliation is key to keep skin looking glowy and avoiding breakouts.

I had previously been a long term user of the Dermalogica daily microfoliant but I am a total convert to this product since using it the first time.

I'm finding the results better than the Dermalogica microfoliant and also find that it's easier using the Vitamin scrub than the Dermalogica powder.

I like a proper scratchy facial scrub, I know some people don't like that but I want to feel a product working!

I also now always exfoliate before bed - I used to exfoliate my face in the shower in the morning but realised its not great to exfoliate and then apply moisturiser and make up, and that it's far more effective to do it before bed prior to applying a really good serum, facial oil or moisturiser. This allows the product really get into your pores and do its work.

I've been using the Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion 2 to 3 times a week for about 3 weeks now and I just love it. It's definitely become a staple in my skincare routine. Absolutely my top pick.

Top Pix - Some other Body Shop great buys ...

Hemp hand protector - I think this is the best hand cream around. A must have for your hand bag in the coming winter months.

Vitamin E eye cream - I'm a massive fan of this eye cream. It smoothes and hydrates the delicate skin around the eye area. I find some eye cream irritate my eyes but this feels lovely and is great on its own of under concealer.

Vitamin E body lotion - I'm guilty of not moisturising after every shower because I hate the feel of getting dressed after applying lotion. This one absorbs really quickly and leaves skin feeling lovely and soft and subtle. Lush.
